10 Historical Facts You May Not Know...

Happy Monday Everyone! This morning we are going to go through 10 facts that may blow your mind. I love weird absurd facts, it is just my nature. So let's explore shall we?

1. Do you see those two small children looking upon what seems to be a parade? Well it isn't a parade. That is Abraham Lincoln's funeral procession. Lincoln's body was carted all around the United States after his assassination. Like, everywhere. The individuals onlooking his funeral procession: Cornelius Roosevelt and his two young boys, Elliot and Theodore.

2. Henry III kept a polar bear in the Tower of London. It frequently swam in the Thames.

3. Olive Oatman was "the first white tattooed woman in the history of the United States..." She was captured by a group of Native Americans. After being sold to another tribe as a slave, she was inducted into the tribe and tattooed. She was rescued 5 years later.

4. Even Presidents behave badly. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams conspired and sawed off a section of a chair previously owned by William Shakespeare...to keep, as a memento.

5. Queen Elizabeth II is directly related to Vlad the Impaler

6. British cartographer Lt. Richard Williams'  hand colored map of Revolutionary War Era Boston has all fortifications clearly marked including Mt. Whoredom, also know as Boston's Red Light District.

7. Andrew Johnson is the only president to kill a man in a duel.

8. When Albert Einstein arrived in America he was shocked at how Black Americans were treated. He said "There is a separation of colored people from white people in the United States. That separation is a disease of white people. And, I do not intend to be quiet about it." Good guy that Einstein, good guy.

9. Did you know that in 1876 the first attempt was made to steal Lincoln's body? I'm just going to let that sentence sink in for a moment.

10. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, who combined murdered 40 million, were both nominated for Nobel Peace Prizes.
