High 5 for High School

...yes, you read that correctly. Today, on this Friday...the Friday that you speak of for so many years before it happens...our high school reunion is happening. Seven of Ten and I graduated High School ten years ago this academic year. Ten years ago, we were celebrating our final Homecoming Football Game. We were, well honestly, in what seems like an entirely different life now.

This morning I have five words of advice for people in (or recovering from) from High School!

1. Don't procrastinate your summer reading list - enjoy that you actually have time to read. I would barter a lot of amazing things in my life for a few hours a day to read some awesome books.

2. Pay attention in your foreign language classes. Like, seriously! I slept through more hours of Spanish than I can recall and now I live half of my life looking confused thanks to the fact that the Ninja's family basically only speaks Spanish.

3. Don't worry, not everything you write will be a five paragraph essay. Just wait until you have to rock that dissertation.

4. Go to ALL of the parties you get invited to. ALL of them. Even if you don't feel like it, even if there won't be many people there, and even if you are sure it will be boring... I can pretty much assure you that you will find a way to make it interesting and memorable...like spinning in the middle of the street at midnight.

5. Oh, and by the way, there is not such thing as being "cool" or "popular" or "fitting in." Everyone is in the same boat, everyone is just a person trying to make it through the day and into tomorrow. Enjoy it, it will be gone sooner than you can imagine and seem like... well an entirely different life.

So rock it. Enjoy it. Make the most of it...
I mean, one day you'll be writing a blog about it because it was ten years ago.

As always, stay exceptionally chic & exquisitely geek!
