Cosplay How You Want

I recently saw the above series of photos on Pinterest (follow us here!) and it sparked this blog post.  I've been an avid supporter of a person's right to Cosplay in any way which makes them feel comfortable, but I would like to remind you that we are our own worst bullies.

In 2014, in our first month of Exquisitely Geek, I blogged about body image issues and shaming that exists in the Cosplay community.  You can see that post here.  There are two hashtag trends on Tumblr that I want to commend and point our readers toward.

#Cosplay Whoever You Want

#CosPositive

Both of these movements promote love and acceptance within the Cosplay community.  If you, or someone you know, has experienced harassment while cosplaying, please do not think you are alone.  There is a great Facebook group: Cosplay is NOT Consent which was created to empower Cosplayers to speak out against inappropriate social behavior of a sexual and/or stereotypical nature for themselves and fellow fans.  We're getting deep into Cosplay season, and we want everyone to have a great time!  Remember, we're all there because we love something.  Find commonality in your fanaticism!

Until next time...
