Always Keep Fighting

Over the last couple years we have featured a couple blog posts (No One Else Can Play Your Part & In the Depths) about the struggles and importance of mental health, but last weeks Comic-Con witnessed an outpouring of support that no one anticipated.

Many of us are familiar with Hollywood heartthrob Jared Padalecki from his long running role as one of those brothers on Supernatural, or as Rory's sensitive high school sweetheart on Gilmore Girls, but until recently no one was really aware of Padalecki's struggles with Clinical Depression. In early May Jared canceled his appearance at JibCon. This may sound like it's not that unusual, but for Jared Padalecki and his television brother Jensen Ackles it's huge. Let's just say these two are professional Con-ners. They make uncountable appearances at all types of Conventions through out the year. Okay, so they are not uncountable...you could count them...I just don't have those numbers.

When Padalecki cancels his appearance fans were left with a couple tweets explaining that he was in need of some family time and a bit of time to recharge. Along with this revelation he started a selling a t-shirt for his non-profit titled "Always Keep Fighting" to benefit To Write Love on Her Arms.

What is the outpouring of love that we witnessed? Well at the bottom of the shirt there is a small tea light candle. Guess what made it's way into the hands of 7,000 fans in Hall H?

Everyone in Hall H received a candle with a small note. That note went on say "...Everyone is given a candle that burns just for them. When your flame flickers and you fear it will go out, know not even the strongest wind lasts forever; and there are other lights to guide you even in the Darkness..."

I don't know about you guys, but this makes me love fandom so much more. The sense of community that something like this can build is simply amazing. Until Friday, stay exceptionally chic & exquisitely geek!
