Happy D23!

D23 took place last weekend and you know what that means... fandom news is easy to find! Let's talk about some of the HUGE announcements to come out of the Conference.

They once again confirmed the Star Wars release timeline: The Force Awakens in 2015, Episode VIII in 2017, and Episode IX in 2019. They announced that Rian Johnson (Looper) will be writing and directing Episode VIII and then they announced that Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) for Episode IX. The also announced they are releasing Rogue One, the anthology film, in 2015 and a yet untitled Han Solo Project in May 2018. You realize what that means? A new part of the Star Wars canon will be released every year until 2019!

Disney CEO Bob Iger also announced that using the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm to life will be their greatest accomplishment. "We are bringing Star Wars to life in a big way," he said, announcing a Star Wars themed park to be built simultaneously in both the Orlando and Anheim theme parks. I can imagine that this will be their largest expansion since both of the parks opened. The parks will be roughly 14 acres each and include all the Disney magic you have come to love and expect.

Captain America: Civil War also got a nod during the Expo. The film will be released in May of 2016 and the trailer showed the heavily weaponized villain Crossbones. Feige also teased a bit about Doctor Strange, the film to be released on October 26, 2016, stars a confirmed Benedict Cumberbatch.

Disney is sticking with a formula that has worked for them as of late, remaking classic cartoons into live action films. Next on the list is The Jungle Book, April 2016, as well as a sequel to Tim Burton's remake of Alice in Wonderland titled Alice Through the Looking Glass. I have to admit I squealed when I read the next announcement... Disney is remaking the 1977 film that I watched approximately 538 times as a child... Pete's Dragon. We also know that Beauty and the Beast is making it's live action debut in 2017 starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Steven's as The Beast.

So many announcements! And good ones at that. Sometimes you feel like the Expos and Cons have just one great announcement and a bunch of junk to fill the rest of the space, this time it felt like one high five after another! Here is a list of the upcoming releases so that you know what to expect!
