Forgivness for Mom

If you're a reader of ours, you've probably noticed that we've had to lighten or deadline expectations by going from three post per week to two. You may have still noticed that we don't always get it done. For a while that bothered me greatly when I missed a deadline. I thought I may have failed you as readers or A2-D2 as a blogging partner. Recently, I've needed to reevaluate my priorities and expectations of myself and I've learned a lot in the process.  I've also reached a conclusion about what it means to be someone she looks up to.

I've learned that the "Mom" title really does change you. Don't believe the  Facebook posts of mothers always attending social events, I promise even the most social of mothers are seeing less action than pre mom title. This takes some getting used to. We went out last week and The Captain played arcade games with friends and chatted...I chased a toddler and waved from afar.

You don't have to meld into this role seamlessly. It's okay to need some time to figure out what this new version of you is like. I'm still working on that. This means that sometimes, you have bagels. cereal, and rice for dinner because it's easy.

You can say "no." I don't just mean in terms of your kids, but you can say it to friends, your family, your husband. Sometimes you need time alone. Sometimes you need to be the only one snuggling. Sometimes you need to be the one fixing. Sometimes you need to not be involved. Know the difference- neither option is a failure.

Despite current trends, you don't have to have super powers. You don't have to work full time, be a perfect baker part time, and keep a clean home. You don't have to stay saine 100% of the time!

So, mom, don't compare yourself to the Pinterest mother. There's no way to be a"Perfect Mother" but there are thousands of ways to be a great one. Be the great one.
